About Brother Builder
We're focused on solid work, honest communication, and projects that make everyday life at home better.
Craftsmanship That Respects the Home You Already Have
Brother Builder was founded by Russell Hamilton, a Minneapolis-based builder, visual artist, and professor with decades of experience in materials, design, and hands-on fabrication. We believe good work should be thoughtful, well crafted, durable, useful, and reasonably priced. Every project starts by understanding what already works, what needs improvement, and which solutions make the most sense for the home.
The Meaning Behind Our Name
The name Brother Builder reflects a simple philosophy: treat every client and every project with the same care and respect you would give your own home. We listen, offer clear recommendations, and take pride in doing the work properly, not simply doing what is easiest.
A Practical Approach to Better Building
Rather than recommending major changes for the sake of change, Russell starts by understanding the existing structure and the people who use it. Clear expectations, practical recommendations, and honest pricing keep each project grounded in what is actually needed.
The Ultimate Goal
Russell’s goal is not simply to build something new, but to create spaces and solutions that feel right, function well, and hold up over time. Whether working with an existing structure or creating something custom, he brings the same focus on thoughtful problem-solving and lasting craftsmanship.
Visual Balance Matters as Much as the Build
Russell’s background as a visual artist and professor gives him a trained eye for proportion, materials, composition, and visual balance. That perspective informs the details that make a project feel cohesive, from the way a room flows to how a custom piece fits within the larger home.
For Russell, thoughtful craftsmanship goes beyond construction. The right proportions, materials, finishes, and functionality all contribute to a space that feels intentional.
